Gian Piero Gasperini seeks European-calibre attacking options as club requests player data from Trigoria

AS Roma has confirmed it is actively pursuing Marseille winger Igor Paixao, with initial contacts now underway. The club is seeking to bolster its attacking options with European-level wingers for manager Gian Piero Gasperini, as reports suggest a potential deal with the French side could intensify in the coming weeks.

The 24-year-old Brazilian, born in 2000 in Macapá, delivered a strong performance during the 2023–2024 season, scoring 12 goals and providing six assists across 42 appearances for Marseille. His contributions included eight matches in Europe’s top club competition, where he added four goals and one assist. This follows a previous stint with Feyenoord before his move to the French club.

Roma’s interest is not new, having expressed curiosity in the player during the previous summer transfer window. However, Marseille ultimately secured his signature after narrowly missing out on Champions League qualification following a change in management. The Giallorossi have now revisited the target, with journalist Matteo Moretto first highlighting the concrete interest in the attacking winger.

To facilitate the evaluation process, Roma has requested detailed player information from its Trigoria training base. The club is currently awaiting a final decision on whether to proceed with a formal approach. While the status of the deal remains in the evaluation phase, the pursuit of Paixao is part of a broader strategy to strengthen the squad’s attacking depth.

In addition to Paixao, Roma is closely monitoring other potential targets, including Mason Greenwood. The club’s focus remains on acquiring wingers capable of operating at a high European standard, with the final decision on the Paixao pursuit pending further internal deliberation.
