Robinson named in USMNT World Cup squad after 18-month injury layoff
The 28-year-old veteran expressed relief at regaining his fitness after missing the majority of the previous season and an international camp in March.

Antonee Robinson has been selected for Mauricio Pochettino’s 26-man United States Men’s National Team squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, marking his return to international duty following a significant injury absence. The Fulham wing-back underwent knee surgery in May last year, a procedure that sidelined him from club and national team football for approximately 18 months.
Robinson, 28, had expressed concern that his place on the roster might be jeopardised following the operation and the subsequent recovery period. He missed the fall international camps and several months of play for his club, but has now recovered sufficiently to be included in the final squad announced this week.
Speaking to The Cooligans podcast earlier this month, Robinson described the emotional difficulty of watching the team from the sidelines. He noted that missing the previous international camp in March was a "massive relief" and that being able to wear the jersey again was a significant personal milestone after a long period of rehabilitation.
The veteran defender has been a consistent presence in the national team setup since his senior debut in 2018. He has earned 52 caps for the United States, although he previously referenced 50 games in his podcast interview. Robinson highlighted the development of the squad over the past decade, noting that players who debuted in their late teens are now experienced veterans ready for the tournament.
The 2026 World Cup will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Robinson stated that he has focused heavily on off-pitch preparation to ensure he was ready for the summer tournament. He described the growth of the group as a source of pride, observing that many of his teammates have matured from young prospects into fully experienced players.
Robinson’s inclusion signals his full reintegration into the national team setup after a prolonged absence. His return adds depth to the wing-back position as the USMNT prepares for the home-and-neighbourhood tournament. The squad will now focus on final preparations for the global event, with Robinson available to contribute after his successful recovery.
