Rob Reiner receives posthumous Emmy for The Bear
The win broke a category record held by Reiner’s father, Carl, as Widow’s Bay led the early awards with eight trophies.
Rob Reiner has received a posthumous Emmy for outstanding guest actor in a comedy for The Bear, breaking the category record previously held by his father, Carl Reiner.
Announced on Sunday night during the two-day ceremony formerly known as the Creative Arts Emmys, the award prompted a standing ovation. Jamie Lee Curtis, Reiner’s friend and fellow The Bear guest star, was among those paying tribute.
According to The Guardian, Reiner’s win came 48 years after his previous acting Emmy, the longest reported gap between acting wins in Emmy history. Carl Reiner had held the category record since winning in 1995 for Mad About You.
Apple TV’s Widow’s Bay led the early awards with eight wins for its debut season, including outstanding guest actress in a comedy for Betty Gilpin. The Pitt and Pluribus each collected four awards, while DTF St Louis won six in the limited series categories.
David Harbour and Linda Cardellini became first-time Emmy winners for DTF St Louis. Spider-Noir also claimed five awards, including honours for visual effects and stunts.
The main Primetime Emmy ceremony, hosted by Mariska Hargitay, is scheduled to air live on NBC on 14 September US time.
