Reddit reports strong Q1 2026 results as search usage and AI integration drive revenue beat
The social platform's pivot toward search infrastructure and artificial intelligence features has yielded significant user growth and commercial engagement in the first quarter of 2026

Reddit has reported a material improvement in its search capabilities, with CEO Steve Huffman announcing a 30 per cent year-on-year increase in weekly search users. The figure marks a significant turnaround for the platform, which had previously faced criticism regarding the quality of its search function. Huffman attributed this growth to sustained investments in search infrastructure and the integration of artificial intelligence features designed to assist users in finding relevant content.
In the first quarter of 2026, the platform recorded 493 million weekly active unique users and 126 million daily active unique users. These metrics represent a 23 per cent and 17 per cent year-on-year increase respectively. The company noted that search has become a primary driver for both user acquisition and retention, with meaningful growth observed across daily active users, weekly active users, and total queries.
Financially, Reddit exceeded market expectations for the quarter, reporting revenue of $663 million against Wall Street estimates of $609.8 million. Capital expenditures were notably low at just $1 million for the period. The revenue beat was supported by robust international expansion, with daily active users rising 26 per cent to 73.3 million, while the United States market saw a 7 per cent improvement to 53.5 million daily active users.
The strategic focus on artificial intelligence has also begun to influence commercial outcomes on the platform. Huffman highlighted that approximately 40 per cent of conversations on Reddit are commercial in nature. Furthermore, data indicates that 84 per cent of shoppers feel more confident in their buying decisions after conducting research on the site. Earlier in February, the company began testing product placement through AI search results in the United States, with Huffman noting that Reddit Answers is now better integrated into the product.
Beyond search, the platform has leveraged machine translation support for over 30 languages to drive significant user growth in recent quarters. This multi-pronged approach aligns with the company's long-term targets to reach one billion daily users worldwide and 100 million daily users in the United States. The combination of improved utility and global accessibility appears to be resonating with a broader audience.
