Recursive Superintelligence has announced a multi-year compute agreement with Amazon Web Services (AWS) valued at $410 million in total outlay. The deal, which includes an initial commitment of $400 million, represents the majority of the company’s $650 million in total fundraising since emerging from stealth mode in May 2026. Unlike many industry arrangements that combine cloud resources with equity investment, this agreement is structured as a pure commercial contract, with AWS taking no investment stake in the AI firm.

The capital deployment is designed to support Recursive’s research into open-ended, self-improving AI systems, a field known as Recursive Self-Improvement (RSI). Recursive CEO Richard Socher stated that the company prioritises compute capacity over traditional headcount, aiming to automate its own product development processes through high agent counts. Socher characterised the current $410 million deal as potentially one of the smaller compute commitments the company will sign in the coming years, indicating expectations for significantly larger future expenditures as the technology scales.

Amazon will co-develop infrastructure purpose-built for Recursive’s specific operational needs, a move that AWS executives suggest could attract other foundation-level AI companies. Jason Bennet, vice-president for startups and venture capital at AWS, confirmed the partnership, noting that the scale of the commitment allows the cloud provider to dedicate significant resources to supporting Recursive’s unique requirements. This approach contrasts with the hybrid investment models often seen in the sector, focusing instead on technical collaboration and infrastructure customisation.

Recursive’s business model diverges from traditional tech firms by directing budget primarily towards compute resources rather than personnel. Socher emphasised that the company’s focus is on increasing its agent count to drive efficiency and innovation in its self-improving systems. The company aims to leverage these capabilities to develop actual products, moving beyond theoretical research to practical application within a defined timeframe.

Socher provided a specific timeline for product releases, stating that tangible, useful products based on Recursive’s self-improving AI systems are expected to be available for public use by October 2026. He described the upcoming releases as tools that users will be able to interact with directly, marking a shift from abstract development to consumer-facing utility. The announcement underscores the intensifying competition for cloud infrastructure among AI labs pursuing advanced autonomous systems.
