RCB climb to summit of IPL table as Kohli anchors chase against KKR

Royal Challengers Bengaluru have ascended to the top of the Indian Premier League 2026 points table following a six-wicket victory over Kolkata Knight Riders in Raipur on Wednesday. Chasing a target of 193, the side secured the win with five balls remaining, a result that elevates their standing to 16 points from 12 matches.

The innings was anchored by Virat Kohli, who scored an unbeaten 105 off 60 balls, including 11 fours and three sixes. The knock marked a return to form for the former captain, who had previously recorded two consecutive ducks. Kohli was subsequently named Player of the Match for his contribution to the team’s success.

Kohli adopted a measured approach, describing his strategy as "risk-free cricket" focused on finding gaps and maintaining presence at the crease. He opted for a subdued celebration upon reaching his century, emphasising that the strategic value of the points outweighed individual milestones.

"There's a reason why people say pressure is a privilege. Good pressure always makes you improve your game," Kohli stated after the match. He noted that his positioning and focus on the present moment allowed him to back his game effectively under the pressure of the chase.

Supporting Kohli’s innings, Devdutt Padikkal contributed 39 runs. Earlier, Kolkata Knight Riders had posted 192/4, with notable contributions from Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Cameron Green. Kartik Tyagi was the standout bowler for the opposition, taking 3/32.

RCB captain Rajat Patidar praised the collective effort of the squad, noting that players contributed at various stages of the match. He highlighted Kohli’s consistent ability to perform under pressure, stating that the team remains focused on progressing one game at a time.
