RCB and GT set for IPL 2026 decider in Ahmedabad
Royal Challengers Bengaluru hold a psychological edge from Qualifier 1, but Gujarat Titans benefit from home advantage at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Gujarat Titans (GT) are set to contest the IPL 2026 final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, 31 May 2026. Both franchises concluded the league stage with nine wins, with RCB securing the top spot on the points table via net run rate. The match carries a reserve day scheduled for Monday, 1 June 2026.
Preparation timelines present a distinct contrast between the two sides. RCB entered a week of rest after securing their place in the final by winning Qualifier 1. Conversely, GT played Qualifier 2 on Friday and arrived in Ahmedabad late on Saturday evening, potentially impacting their recovery time ahead of the title clash.
The contest features a pivotal battle between GT’s opening batting pair and RCB’s new-ball attack. Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan have been instrumental for GT, scoring 722 and 710 runs respectively, with Jos Buttler contributing a further 507 runs. RCB will rely on Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who has taken 26 wickets in 15 matches, 15 of which came in the powerplay, alongside Josh Hazlewood, who has won all five previous T20 finals he has played in.
GT’s pace attack, led by Purple Cap race leader Kagiso Rabada with 28 wickets, poses a significant threat. Rabada has claimed 17 of his wickets in the powerplay, while Mohammed Siraj has taken 13 of his 18 wickets in the same phase. This pressure will test RCB’s top order, which includes Virat Kohli, leading the team’s run-scorers with 600 runs, and the expected return of Phil Salt.
Structural differences in batting depth may prove decisive. GT’s success is heavily reliant on their top three, having won six of seven matches where Gill and Sudharsan survived beyond the fifth over. RCB, however, has demonstrated greater variety, with eight different players winning Player of the Match awards in their victories this season. Key contributors include Rajat Patidar with 486 runs and Krunal Pandya, who has scored over 200 runs and taken more than 10 wickets.
Under the tournament’s playing conditions, if the final is washed out on either day, the title will be awarded to the team that finished higher in the league stage standings, which is RCB. The match marks RCB’s fifth IPL final as they attempt to defend their title, while GT makes their third final appearance in five seasons.
