RB Leipzig insist on guaranteed fee in Real Madrid Diomande talks

RB Leipzig and Real Madrid are continuing negotiations regarding the transfer of defender Yan Diomande, with the Bundesliga club signalling a clear preference for financial certainty over variable incentives. Following Diomande’s return to training after his post-World Cup vacation, the two clubs resumed discussions on Monday, though a deal remains contingent on structural adjustments to the proposed fee.
According to Sky Sports, Real Madrid submitted a second bid structured as a €115 million package. While Leipzig has not formally rejected the offer, sources indicate the club is demanding a higher guaranteed component rather than relying on performance-related bonuses. Sky Sports suggests that €120 million is considered a realistic figure to bridge the gap between the parties.
The negotiations involve complex financial arrangements, with ongoing discussions regarding payment structures and sell-on clauses. A significant factor in these talks is the existing agreement with CD Leganes, which guarantees the Spanish club 5-8% of the final transfer fee. This clause was established when RB Leipzig acquired Diomande from Leganes last summer for a fee of €20 million.
The potential move follows a period of intense interest from other European clubs, most notably Paris Saint-Germain. PSG had previously submitted a final bid of £102.5 million, which was rejected by Leipzig, before Diomande completed his move to the Bundesliga. The current negotiations with Real Madrid represent a significant escalation in value, reflecting the player’s rapid development since his arrival in Germany.
Real Madrid’s pursuit of Diomande forms part of a broader squad overhaul at the Santiago Bernabeu. The club has recently registered new signings Marc Cucurella and Ibrahima Konate as part of its preparations for the upcoming season. The registration of Cucurella, who joined from Chelsea for a base fee of €55 million plus €5 million in add-ons, and Konate, who arrived on a free transfer from Liverpool, underscores the scale of the Spanish giants’ recruitment strategy.
As talks continue, the focus remains on finalising the financial terms to satisfy Leipzig’s requirement for a guaranteed fee.
