Arkansas softball vs Duke prediction, scouting report for super regional
NCAA Tournament stakes high in Fayetteville

The Arkansas Razorbacks will host the Duke Blue Devils at Bogle Park in Fayetteville for the NCAA Super Regional, commencing on Friday, May 22. The winner of the best-of-three series will secure a berth in the Women’s College World Series in Oklahoma City. Arkansas enters the contest as the No. 5 seed with a 45-11 record, while Duke arrives as the No. 12 seed at 43-15 following their victory in the Durham Regional.

Arkansas is seeking its first Super Regional victory, having previously fallen short in 2025. The Razorbacks advanced to this stage with a 3-0 record at the Fayetteville Regional, where they scored 27 runs across three games. This offensive surge contrasts with their performance in the final 11 games prior to the regional, where they averaged just 3.3 runs per game. The program has reached this stage of the NCAA Tournament nine times since 2018, including a final appearance in 2025.

Duke, meanwhile, brings experience from a Super Regional victory over Missouri in 2024. The Blue Devils have combined for nine Super Regional appearances since 2018, a period during which neither program had previously reached this stage. Duke’s offence is ranked fifth nationally in batting average at .357, slugging percentage at .642, and home runs with 113. Five starters are hitting above .350, led by Tyrina Jones, who has recorded 23 home runs and 80 RBIs.

The series dynamic hinges on pitching depth versus offensive power. Arkansas features a trio of starters described as a "three-headed monster," including Robyn Herron (16-6, 1.97 ERA), Payton Burnham (13-3, 1.86 ERA), and Saylor Timmerman (10-2, 2.82 ERA). Timmerman did not allow a run in five innings during the regional. In contrast, Duke lacks a dominant ace, with leading pitcher Cassidy Curd posting a 4.59 ERA. Four other Duke pitchers have thrown more than 50 innings, averaging fewer than one strikeout per inning.

Arkansas is favoured to advance due to its pitching depth and lineup potency, despite Duke’s strong hitting metrics. The Razorbacks’ bottom-of-the-order hitters performed well during the first weekend of the NCAA Tournament, providing additional offensive support. While Duke possesses significant power threats, including Aminah Vega, Jessica Oakland, and Layla Lamar, Arkansas’ pitching staff is expected to limit their scoring opportunities. The Razorbacks will aim to overcome the pressure of their first trip to Oklahoma City and avoid the misfortunes that affected their 2025 campaign.
