Rangers reach .500 after Royals’ pre-game delay sparks frustration
Corey Seager delivers key hits as team navigates administrative delays and aggressive base running to improve record to 34-34

The Texas Rangers have reached the .500 mark for the season, improving their record to 34-34 following a 4-2 victory over the Kansas City Royals. The win marks the Rangers’ fourth consecutive series victory, a milestone achieved despite a contentious pre-game environment that saw the match delayed by more than two hours before a single pitch was thrown.
The delay was initiated by the Royals to protect their pitching staff from potential rain, despite clear skies and no precipitation occurring during the wait. The decision to halt the game before it began drew criticism from the Rangers, who were already navigating a demanding road trip schedule. The team is currently playing 23 games over the next 24 days, and the extended wait added logistical friction to their travel plans.
Corey Seager was named Player of the Game, contributing significantly to the offensive output with a solo home run in the third inning and a run-scoring single in the first. Seager’s first-inning single resulted in a run after a double by Brandon Nimmo, though Seager was subsequently thrown out at home plate following a collision with catcher Carter Jensen. He remained in the game despite the impact.
The Rangers’ approach on the base paths was notably aggressive, resulting in a mixed outcome. While the team recorded 11 hits and never trailed in the game, three Rangers runners were thrown out attempting to take an extra base at third. The pitching staff managed the game effectively, with starter Kumar Rocker removed after 4.2 innings and 83 pitches to avoid facing the Royals’ middle-of-the-order left-handed hitters a third time. The bullpen provided 4.1 scoreless innings to secure the win.
Defensively, the Rangers neutralised several Royals threats by turning three double plays. The victory allows the team to shift focus toward the next phase of their season as they prepare to travel to Boston. The Rangers will face the Red Sox in an upcoming series, with RHP Jack Leiter expected to start opposite Boston’s RHP Sonny Gray.
