Club confirms non-exercise of £9m purchase clause for Wolfsburg winger

Rangers FC has confirmed it will not exercise its option to permanently sign Danish winger Andreas Skov Olsen from Wolfsburg for a fee of £9m. The decision concludes the player’s loan spell at Ibrox, with the club opting against a full transfer as it moves to restructure its playing squad. The move was reported by The Herald.

In a broader review of its roster, the club has announced plans to release backup goalkeepers Liam Kelly and Kieran Wright. According to the Daily Record, Rangers intends to encourage several players to seek new clubs, including a significant number of loan returnees and current squad members.

The players identified for potential departure include centre-half Clinton Nsiala, midfielder Jose Cifuentes, wingers Oscar Cortes and Ross McCausland, and striker Danilo, all of whom are returning from loan spells. Additionally, Lyall Cameron, Thelo Aasgaard, Nedim Bajrami, and Bojan Miovski have been advised that finding new clubs would be beneficial for their development.

Conversely, the club’s younger assets are attracting attention from outside. Winger Findlay Curtis, a 19-year-old who has been called up to Scotland’s World Cup squad, is being monitored by Middlesbrough and Wrexham, with Bologna and Udinese also conducting regular scouting missions, as reported by TeamTalk.

Market valuations for Rangers players have also seen significant movement. Transfermarkt data indicates that centre-half Emmanuel Fernandez received the largest market value upgrade in the Scottish Premiership this season, with his valuation rising by £7.8m to £15.6m. Striker Youssef Chermiti’s value increased by £5.2m to £13m, while Celtic midfielder Benjamin Nygren saw a rise of £3.5m to £12.1m.

Meanwhile, 22-year-old centre-half Leon King, recently released by Ayr United, has expressed his desire to return to Rangers, believing he could still feature in the first team. In other transfer news, Sporting Lisbon has made a move for Hacken midfielder Silas Andersen, who is linked with a £6m fee and has previously been associated with both Celtic and Rangers.

Dundee centre-half Luke Graham, who is being tracked by Rangers and English clubs, stated that the constant speculation regarding his future has become tiring. Former Rangers winger Chris Burke also reflected on his career, noting in the Glasgow Times that he chose the Ibrox club over Arsenal in 2000 because he felt valued by the institution.
