NFL futures odds: How trade for Myles Garrett impacts Rams' division, NFC and Super Bowl odds
Sportsbooks adjust lines as Los Angeles secures record-setting pass rusher

The Los Angeles Rams have cemented their status as the primary contenders for the Super Bowl following a blockbuster trade that sees them acquire defensive end Myles Garrett from the Cleveland Browns. The transaction, confirmed on Monday by major sports reporters including NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Tom Pelissero, and ESPN’s Adam Schefter, involves the Rams sending outside linebacker Jared Verse and three future draft picks to Cleveland.

The immediate impact on the betting markets was significant. DraftKings updated its futures lines shortly after the announcement, dropping the Rams’ odds to win the Super Bowl from +800 to +600. This shift not only makes Los Angeles the outright favourites but also elevates their standing in the conference and division, with odds for the NFC title moving to +300 and the NFC West to +100.

Garrett, a two-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year, brings a historic statistical profile to the roster. The 30-year-old edge rusher set the single-season sacks record last year with 23 and holds the record for most sacks per game in NFL history. His arrival complements an already potent offensive unit led by reigning MVP quarterback Matthew Stafford, who guided the Rams to the second-best regular-season record in the NFC last year.

The acquisition marks a continued defensive overhaul for Los Angeles, which also traded for All-Pro cornerback Trent McDuffie and signed Jaylen Watson this spring. The move significantly alters the competitive landscape of the NFC West, heightening the challenge for rivals such as the San Francisco 49ers in the upcoming season opener.

While the betting lines have shifted, data analytics suggest there may still be value in the market. The SportsLine Projection Model, which simulates every NFL game 10,000 times, estimates the Rams have a 16.5% chance of winning the Super Bowl, exceeding the 14.3% implied probability of their +600 odds. However, Principal Data Engineer Stephen Oh noted that Seattle could potentially tie the Rams in the simulations if their rookie running back Jadarian Price matches the production of Kenneth Walker.

Other Super Bowl contenders saw minor adjustments in the wake of the trade. The Seattle Seahawks’ odds lengthened slightly to +1100, while the Buffalo Bills and Baltimore Ravens remained steady at +1000. The volatile nature of player contracts and franchise strategies continues to define the modern NFL, with the Rams’ aggressive moves signalling a clear intent to dominate the conference.
