The decision follows Mendoza’s first NFL appearance during a preseason match at Allegiant Stadium on Thursday, where the No. 1 overall pick gained his initial exposure to the speed and physicality of professional football.

Mendoza, who previously secured a Heisman Trophy and a national championship during a 16-0 season at Indiana, acknowledged the significant disparity between college and professional play. During the game, he scrambled to avoid a sack before throwing the ball out of bounds, a moment that underscored the increased pace and impact of NFL defenders compared to his collegiate experience.
