Quiz Retail to close all standalone stores by mid-2026 following administration
The retailer confirmed the closure of 37 remaining locations and the immediate shutdown of its online platform, citing intense competition from ultra-cheap digital rivals and declining revenue.

Scotland-based fast-fashion retailer Quiz has confirmed it will close all 37 of its remaining standalone stores by the end of June 2026. The announcement follows the company’s entry into administration on 5 February 2026, a move that marks its second administration in 12 months and its third insolvency event in six years. The retailer, which was founded in 1993, stated that clearance sales offering at least 60% off all in-store merchandise would begin immediately across all locations.
The collapse comes against a backdrop of mounting financial pressure and shrinking sales. In its latest earnings report for the six months ended 30 September 2024, Quiz reported a 7.6% year-over-year decline in group revenue. Management attributed the slowdown to weaker foot traffic both online and in physical stores. Sales during the crucial November and December holiday shopping season also fell short of expectations, contributing to plans to delist from London’s AIM market.
Quiz has faced intensifying competition from ultra-cheap online rivals such as Shein and Temu, which have gained significant market share by offering trend-focused products at prices that traditional retailers struggle to match. The broader retail landscape has shifted dramatically, with the global e-commerce market valued at $33.91 trillion in 2025 and projected to reach $155.98 trillion by 2033, according to data from Grand View Research. Retail analysts at Forrester note that long-term survival increasingly depends on a retailer's ability to balance operational efficiency, digital innovation, and customer experience.
In the UK, administration is a court-supervised insolvency process designed to protect financially distressed businesses from creditor action while licensed insolvency practitioners attempt to restructure or sell the company. Quiz previously employed more than 565 workers, though the exact number of job losses has not been confirmed. Specific standalone store locations expected to close include the Manchester Trafford Centre in Greater Manchester.
While the online store ceased operations immediately following the appointment of administrators, Quiz concessions operating inside New Look and Matalan stores in the UK are not included in the administration and are expected to remain open. Customers with online purchases made before 5 February may qualify as unsecured claims through the administration of Orion Retail Limited. However, gift cards and store credit notes are no longer accepted, and customers returning items purchased before the administration date will not receive refunds.
