Purdy’s fast start puts 49ers’ Super Bowl hopes back in view
Brock Purdy has completed 80.4 per cent of his passes through two games as San Francisco begins its bid to return to Super Bowl contention.
Brock Purdy has opened the 2026 NFL season with 492 passing yards and five touchdowns across San Francisco’s first two games, according to Sky Sports. He has completed 45 of 56 passes, giving him an 80.4 per cent completion rate.
The figures have fuelled early attention on the 49ers’ prospects, but Sky Sports cautions that judgements after two games are premature. San Francisco is seeking to return to Super Bowl contention after recent seasons hampered by injuries to prominent players.
Purdy’s path has already included a run to the NFC Championship Game as a rookie, after being selected with the final pick of the 2022 draft. The following season, he led the 49ers to Super Bowl LVIII, where they lost to Kansas City in overtime.
Sky Sports describes Purdy’s strengths as processing, anticipation and accuracy. San Francisco also has Christian McCaffrey, George Kittle and receiver Mike Evans reported healthy, giving the quarterback an experienced group of targets.
The 49ers are scheduled to face the Arizona Cardinals in Week 3, with a win taking them to 3–0.
