Protest disrupts Desmond’s round at St Andrews golf championship
Tennis balls bearing images of the Celtic shareholder were thrown onto the 15th green. Police Scotland said no injuries were reported and enquiries were ongoing.

Tennis balls bearing crossed-out images of Celtic shareholder Dermot Desmond were thrown onto the 15th green at St Andrews on Saturday during the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, as he prepared to take a shot. Security intervened.
The protest was attributed to Celtic supporters. The Celtic Fans Collective said supporters were sending a message over Desmond’s role at the football club.
In a statement shared online, the group accused Desmond of using his wealth to avoid accountability to supporters and called for the current arrangement at Celtic to end. Those claims and demands represent the group’s position.
Police Scotland said it was aware of tennis balls being thrown on the golf course at about 2pm on 3 October. There were no reported injuries and enquiries were ongoing.
The source account reported no further incidents and said Desmond left the Old Course in a buggy. It did not identify those responsible or report any arrests.
