The Boys is dead. Long live Vought Rising.
Franchise pivots to 1950s origins with Jensen Ackles and Aya Cash returning as new series set for 2027 release

Prime Video has released the first teaser for Vought Rising, a new prequel series to The Boys, just two days after the conclusion of the original show’s fifth season finale. The announcement signals a strategic pivot for the franchise, which must now carry its momentum forward following the cancellation of the spinoff Gen V after two seasons. Alongside the planned The Boys: Mexico series, Vought Rising is positioned to sustain the intellectual property’s commercial viability.

Set in the 1950s, the upcoming series explores the origins of Vought International, depicting Supes initially serving in the military before transitioning to the private sector. Series creator Eric Kripke noted that the costume designs for the Supes in this era were inspired by USO performers, reflecting the military roots of the characters before they entered the corporate sphere. The teaser provides an initial look at the twisted origins of the corporation that will define the next evolution of the franchise.

The confirmed cast includes Jensen Ackles reprising his role as Ben/Soldier Boy, a character portrayed with patriotic ideals in this earlier period. Aya Cash returns as Stormfront, also known as Clara Vought, following her memorable tenure as a secret Nazi Supe in the original series. Other returning actors include Mason Dye as Robbie/Bombsight, Will Hochman as Torpedo, Elizabeth Posey as Private Angel, and Ethan Slater as Thomas Godolkin, who previously appeared in Gen V.

The main ensemble is bolstered by new cast members KiKi Layne, Jorden Myrie, Nicolo Pasetti, Ricky Staffieri, and Brian J. Smith, who are joining in undisclosed roles. Kripke has indicated that other characters from the broader franchise could also make appearances as the narrative expands. The series is scheduled to premiere on Prime Video in 2027, offering a long-term anchor for the brand’s content strategy.

The launch follows a fifth season finale that concluded with the death of Homelander, played by Antony Starr, who was killed by Butcher, portrayed by Karl Urban. The final confrontation saw Homelander seek the original V compound for immortality and Butcher attempt to deploy a Supe-specific virus for genocide. The conflict resulted in heavy losses for both factions, including the death of Frenchie, leaving the franchise to rebuild its narrative foundation with the new prequel and international spinoff.
