Prime Day discounts offer relief amid rising laptop costs
With RAM and storage crunches pushing new device prices up, Amazon’s sales event provides mitigation for consumers, though broader market trends remain unchanged.
Amazon’s Prime Day has triggered a wave of discounts across Mac and Windows laptops, keyboards, mice, and PC accessories, offering a partial offset to rising hardware costs. The Verge has compiled a list of 25 specific deals, noting that while the sales event does not reverse broader market trends, the reductions provide tangible savings for consumers who need to purchase new devices immediately.
The current pricing environment is defined by a crunch in RAM, storage, and other critical components. Many laptop models have seen price increases after remaining on the market for several months, while those on shelves for over a year have also adjusted upwards. Furthermore, new models are launching at higher price points than their previous generations, making the current period less ideal for discretionary spending.
Despite these headwinds, the Prime Day discounts cover a wide range of established brands. Featured hardware includes Apple’s 2026 MacBook Air, which features an M5 chip and 512GB of storage, as well as Microsoft’s entry-level Surface Laptop and the latest Surface Pro powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Plus chip. Asus is represented by the Zenbook A14 and the ROG Zephyrus G14, while Acer offers a mid-range model equipped with RTX 5070 graphics and a 16-inch 240Hz display.
Peripheral discounts extend to accessories from Logitech and Elgato. The list includes the Logitech MX Master 3S mouse, the Elgato Stream Deck MK.2, a Hall effect gaming keyboard, and an Xbox-inspired mechanical keyboard. An update on June 24th added deals for the Microsoft Surface Pro 12-inch and Moft accessories, expanding the scope of available hardware.
For shoppers avoiding Amazon, counter-deals are available at other retailers, including Best Buy’s Tech Fest Sale. While the discounts do not solve the underlying supply chain pressures, they offer a viable mitigation strategy for buyers facing elevated entry costs in the PC hardware market.
