Pope Leo XIV declined to claim any role in the Chicago White Sox’s return to the playoffs, answering “No comment” when a reporter asked whether the team’s result was miraculous and whether he had anything to do with it.
The exchange took place aboard the pope’s plane to France. He added: “Great things happen in Chicago.”
Born and raised in Chicago, Leo XIV is a lifelong White Sox fan. The report offers no evidence linking him to the team’s sporting result.
The pope has also drawn attention for his football allegiance. In June, he said the pope was “for all teams” before adding that he personally supported Real Madrid, prompting reactions from Barcelona fans.
