Developer adapts popular VR platformer for flat-screen audiences with enhanced visuals and accessibility features

Polyarc has confirmed the upcoming release of Moss: The Forgotten Relic, a comprehensive bundle comprising the original Moss, Moss: Book II, and the Twilight Garden DLC. The package is scheduled for launch in summer 2026 across PC, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S platforms.

The developer describes the non-VR iterations as being "beautifully enhanced and reimagined" to suit traditional flat-screen gameplay. This adaptation involves upgraded visuals and new handcrafted cutscenes designed to complement the narrative experience. The shift from virtual reality to standard displays requires significant mechanical adjustments, as the original VR versions relied on headset immersion for environmental interaction.

In the original VR releases, players controlled a mouse avatar named Quill while simultaneously acting as a "God" figure over the game world. This perspective allowed users to look around every corner and directly influence the environment. The console and PC versions retain the core mechanic of guiding Quill, utilising a traditional camera system that follows the avatar. While the exact technical implementation of this camera system remains unexplained in available footage, trailers indicate that the player retains similar oversight capabilities over the levels.

Addressing potential barriers for a broader audience, Polyarc has introduced an accessibility option that allows players to skip difficult combat sections. This feature caters to those who prefer to focus on the puzzle-solving elements inherent in the titles. The release price has not yet been announced, leaving the commercial details for the bundle to be confirmed closer to the launch window.

While VR titles are frequently ported to flat-screen formats, with examples including Resident Evil, Hitman, No Man's Sky, and Borderlands 2, the reverse process is less common. Moss: The Forgotten Relic represents a notable effort to translate a distinctly VR-centric experience to conventional gaming hardware. The bundle will be available via Steam for PC and on the specified console platforms.
