Phone screen recording differs by device, with built-in tools on Pixel, Galaxy and iPhone
WIRED’s guide sets out screen-recording options on three major phone platforms, including audio, capture area and where videos are saved.
WIRED has published a guide to recording a phone screen, covering built-in tools on Google Pixel, Samsung Galaxy and iPhone. The controls vary, but each platform offers a way to capture and save a recording without installing another app.
On Pixel phones, the screen recorder is available through Quick Settings. Users can capture the full screen or a single app, include audio from apps or the microphone, and show touch indicators or a selfie-camera overlay. Recordings are saved to Google Photos.
Samsung Galaxy users can choose a full or partial-screen capture, with audio options for no sound, media, or media and microphone. The tool can show taps and touches, and offers annotation and selfie-camera overlays while recording. Videos are saved in Samsung Gallery and, if installed, Google Photos.
On iPhone, recording starts from Control Centre and saves to Photos. Users can include microphone audio or select a broadcast destination; the phone’s native output audio is included by default. WIRED notes that iOS limits what third-party apps can do with screen recording for privacy and security reasons.
The guide names Record It! for iOS and AZ Recorder and Mobizen Screen Recorder for Android. It describes additional features and paid options for these apps, including removing ads or watermarks, but app details and prices may change.
