Perplexity brings AI agent tool to Windows, targeting enterprise workflows

Perplexity has expanded its Personal Computer agentic tool to Windows PCs, enabling the operating system to function as a locally run AI system. The software, described by the company as a general-purpose digital worker, allows users to access local files, Microsoft Office 365 applications, and the web through a unified interface. This release targets the significant portion of enterprise work that typically occurs on local Windows devices, which Perplexity notes has often remained out of reach for AI agents.
The Windows version of the tool operates directly within the Windows environment, aiming to address workflows that are frequently fragmented across local machines. This launch follows the initial release of the Personal Computer tool for macOS in April, as well as earlier integrations with Microsoft 365 workspace apps and Teams virtual meeting software introduced in May. Perplexity stated that the new release is designed for the often messy way enterprise work gets done, allowing users to ask the system to perform actions such as creating documents and updating spreadsheets.
Availability for the Windows tool begins today for paying subscribers on the Max and Enterprise Max tiers. Subscription costs start at $200 per month, with exact pricing for specific enterprise configurations potentially varying. The service is positioned to bridge the gap between cloud-based AI capabilities and the local data environments that many organisations rely on for daily operations.
Perplexity has made specific claims regarding data privacy and user control within the software. The company states that the tool does not train on company data, a point that should be treated as a company assertion rather than an independently verified fact. Additionally, the software is designed to notify users before performing sensitive actions, such as sending emails or deleting files, to maintain oversight during automated tasks.
