Official: Florentino Perez wins Real Madrid presidential election
Club president defeats Enrique Riquelme with 65% of the ballot, setting stage for managerial and transfer announcements

Florentino Perez has been officially re-elected as president of Real Madrid, securing a fourth term following a presidential election that proved significantly closer than initial projections suggested. Perez defeated challenger Enrique Riquelme with 21,741 votes, representing approximately 65% of the total, while Riquelme received 14,814 votes.

The contest, conducted by the club’s members known as socios, saw a total of 33,555 votes cast, resulting in a voter turnout of under 40%. While Perez was widely regarded as the clear favourite, particularly given his history with the club, the mid-polling data indicated Riquelme had captured 35% of the vote share, a result that surprised the incumbent’s camp.

Perez, who has led the Spanish institution since 2000 with a brief hiatus between 2006 and 2009, will remain in charge until 2030. The outcome confirms his continued authority over the club’s governance, allowing him to proceed with strategic appointments and transfer negotiations that were pending the election’s conclusion.

With the mandate secured, Real Madrid is expected to move quickly on personnel changes. Jose Mourinho is in all likelihood to be the first official announcement as manager. This will be followed by potential signings, including Denzel Dumfries and Ibrahima Konate, as the club looks to strengthen its squad.

The president is also expected to activate a €150 million star signing and recruit additional midfield players in the coming weeks. The official reinstatement of Perez is scheduled for this week, marking the start of a busy period for the club’s administration as it implements its planned sporting strategy.
