New England Patriots trading for Pro Bowl WR A.J. Brown
NFL transaction reshapes offensive hierarchy for both franchises

The New England Patriots have finalised a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles to acquire wide receiver A.J. Brown, a move that concludes months of speculation regarding the veteran’s destination following the post-June 1 deadline. The transaction, confirmed on June 1, 2026, sees New England send a 2028 first-round draft pick and a 2027 fifth-round pick to Philadelphia. The fifth-round selection will be the higher of New England’s two current picks in that round.

The deal reunites Brown with Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel, whom he played under during his tenure with the Tennessee Titans from 2019 to 2021. Brown, who turns 29 on June 30, was originally drafted by the Titans in 2019 before being traded to the Eagles in April 2022. Over seven seasons in the NFL, the 28-year-old has recorded 524 receptions for more than 8,000 yards and 56 touchdowns across 105 games.

For the Philadelphia Eagles, the transaction serves as a strategic salary cap-clearing measure. By offloading Brown, the Super Bowl LIX champions can split over $43 million in dead salary cap space between the 2026 and 2027 seasons, allowing for greater financial flexibility in future roster construction.

The acquisition addresses a significant need for New England, which has undergone an offensive overhaul by releasing veteran Stefon Diggs in free agency and signing newcomer Jayden Doubs. Brown is expected to serve as the Patriots’ primary receiver, complementing Doubs in a two-wide receiver package and providing quarterback Drake Maye with a proven target.

The move marks a pivotal shift in the Patriots’ offensive strategy, bringing in a high-volume receiver to stabilise the unit. The trade underscores the organisation’s commitment to building around Vrabel’s system and integrating established talent to support the emerging quarterback position.
