‘I feel great’: Vrabel focused on football as Patriots kick off 2026 OTAs
New England head coach addresses media before voluntary OTA session, citing focus on player development

New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel addressed the media on Wednesday ahead of voluntary Organized Team Activities (OTA), stating he felt “great” and was fully committed to the team. The comments come in the wake of significant personal controversy surrounding his relationship with former NFL reporter Diana Russini, which has resulted in her resignation and Vrabel’s absence from Day 3 of the NFL draft to seek counselling.

When asked if he anticipated missing further team events in the coming weeks, Vrabel offered a measured response regarding his future availability. “I can only tell you I’m going to be out there today. I can’t tell you anything other than I’m going to be out there today in full force,” he said. The coach emphasised that while personal matters exist outside of football, his primary focus remains on the coaching staff and player development.

The controversy intensified in April after photos published by the New York Post’s Page Six showed Vrabel and Russini holding hands and sitting in a hot tub at a resort. This followed earlier reports of a secret relationship, including images of the pair at a secluded New York City bar in 2020 and on a boat when Russini was seven months pregnant. Vrabel expressed support for his family, stating, “I think my family is great, I love Jen, the boys, I love, you know, my personal friends.”

On the field, the Patriots are using the voluntary workouts to build chemistry ahead of the upcoming season. A major priority is quarterback Drake Maye, who is expected to continue developing timing and connection with his receiving corps. This includes new wide receiver Romeo Doubs, who signed a reported four-year, $68 million deal this offseason to help replace star receiver Stefon Diggs.

Several key players were absent from the Wednesday session, including Carlton Davis, Kayshon Boutte, Christian Gonzalez, Gabe Jacas, and Harold Landry. Rookie offensive tackle Caleb Lomu, selected with the 28th pick in the NFL draft, was present and expected to take reps at right tackle, with potential time at left tackle.
