Packers rookie Brandon Cisse cleared for full-pad practice after knee scare
Green Bay head coach Matt LaFleur confirmed the rookie cornerback will join practice on 24 August, alongside updates on the recovery timelines for four other key players ahead of a joint session with the Arizona Cardinals.

Green Bay Packers rookie cornerback Brandon Cisse has been cleared to participate in full-pad practice, ending a brief period of uncertainty following a knee injury sustained during pre-season preparations. Head coach Matt LaFleur confirmed the update on 24 August, noting that Cisse will be active in training after missing the remainder of the team’s exhibition match against the Denver Broncos on 21 August.
Cisse injured his knee while covering a punt during the 33-13 victory over Denver and did not return to the field. LaFleur indicated that the coaching staff was not overly concerned after examining the player on the sideline, as the fact that Cisse did not require further medical assessment in the locker room suggested the injury was not severe. Despite this, there was a possibility the issue could have cost him a day or two of training time.
The clearance is timely as the Packers prepare for a joint practice with the Arizona Cardinals scheduled for 26 August. LaFleur stated that Cisse will receive valuable work during this session, allowing the rookie to integrate into the defensive scheme ahead of the regular season.
LaFleur also provided status reports on several other players currently managing injuries. Defensive end Warren Brinson, who injured his calf during warm-ups before the Broncos game, is expected to miss a little time. Given that Brinson is in line to be a starter in Week 1, the coaching staff is unlikely to rush his return. This development may increase playing time for rookie defensive end Chris McClellan, whom LaFleur praised for his recent performance and burst.
Guard Aaron Banks has made progress in his recovery from knee tendinitis. After being limited to individual drills, Banks participated in full-pad 11-on-11 drills for the first time. LaFleur described the guard’s trajectory as “trending in the right direction” and expressed hope that Banks will be ready for Week 1, provided he can continue to accumulate consecutive practice days.
Rookie wide receiver J. Michael Sturdivant remains in the league’s concussion protocol after suffering a head injury against the Broncos. He must be cleared by an independent neurologist before returning to the field. Meanwhile, running back Josh Jacobs, who is returning from a groin injury, has begun participating in some 11-on-11 drills. LaFleur confirmed that Jacobs will remain limited in all-team periods but will be out on the field practicing.
