Orioles defeat Astros in extras to extend streak
Tyler O’Neill’s defensive heroics and go-ahead run secure 4-2 win; Kyle Bradish signs major contract extension

The Baltimore Orioles secured a 4-2 victory over the Houston Astros in 11 innings, extending their winning streak to six games and keeping their hopes alive in the American League wild-card race. The win, achieved in Houston on Saturday evening, leaves Baltimore 1.5 games behind the third and final wild-card position in a competitive division.

The game remained tightly contested until the 10th inning, where Tyler O’Neill delivered a critical defensive play to preserve the lead. With the bases loaded and no outs, O’Neill caught a fly ball in right-center field and threw out a runner at home plate, preventing Houston from taking the lead. He then contributed offensively in the 11th inning, beating out an infield single to score the go-ahead run, followed by a single from Leody Taveras that extended the advantage.

Prior to the matchup, the Orioles announced a five-year, $90 million contract extension for starting pitcher Kyle Bradish. The deal marks the largest contract in franchise history for a pitcher and signals the organisation’s commitment to Bradish as a cornerstone of the rotation. Bradish is scheduled to start the series finale on Sunday against Astros right-hunter Hunter Brown.

Orioles starter Trevor Rogers pitched effectively through six innings, striking out eight batters and stranding seven runners before yielding a run in the seventh. Reliever Rico Garcia entered to manage a bases-loaded threat, allowing a safety squeeze bunt to tie the game but subsequently retiring Isaac Paredes to end the inning. Rogers has posted a 1.69 ERA over his past eight starts since June.

The Orioles’ offense struggled for most of the game, managing only three runs on five hits against Astros starter Spencer Arrighetti, who pitched five innings of one-run ball. The breakthrough came in the 10th when Jeremiah Jackson executed a safety squeeze bunt to score Taveras, giving Baltimore a 2-1 lead. Despite the late surge, the team had to withstand a tense 10th and 11th inning to complete the win, with reliever Cam Sanders closing out the 11th frame.
