The University of Oregon says Dana Altman is retiring as men’s basketball coach, effective immediately, after 16 seasons. The announcement, reported by Fox Sports citing the Associated Press, sets an interim path for the programme while leaving the longer-term appointment until after the season.

Assistant coach Tony Stubblefield will lead the Ducks in 2026–27. Oregon plans to begin a search for Altman’s successor after that season.

Altman took over before the 2010–11 season and compiled a reported 382–182 record at Oregon. The Ducks made nine NCAA Tournament appearances during his tenure, including a Final Four berth in 2017, and won four Pac-12 regular-season titles and four conference tournament titles.

His reported career record as a head coach is 792–425. Before joining Oregon, he coached Creighton for 16 years.

Oregon went 12–20 last season, according to the report. The university’s announcement did not, in the supplied material, give a reason for Altman’s retirement.
