Oregon and Boise State set for college football opener in Eugene

No. 2 Oregon will host Boise State at Autzen Stadium in Eugene on Saturday, 5 September, in one of the headline fixtures of college football’s opening week. The game is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET, with coverage on CBS and Paramount+.

Oregon enters the matchup with quarterback Dante Moore returning after completing 72 per cent of his passes for 3,565 yards, 30 touchdowns and 10 interceptions last season. Moore reportedly bypassed the 2026 NFL Draft to return to Eugene for another season.

Boise State’s principal threat is expected to come on the ground. Running backs Dylan Riley and Sire Gaines reportedly combined for nearly 2,000 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns, forming the centrepiece of a Broncos attack that has been among the team’s main strengths.

The teams last met in 2024, when Oregon prevailed 37–34. Boise State has since won three consecutive conference championships and recorded a 27–4 conference mark across the past four seasons. Oregon, meanwhile, has won 38 games over the past three seasons.

CBS Sports’ preview favours Oregon, citing the Ducks’ defensive line and projecting that it will contain Boise State’s rushing game. Its model expects a low-scoring Oregon win and recommends the total remain under 51.5 points, though those assessments are forecasts rather than confirmed outcomes.
