Oppo’s Bubble is a thin round screen for taking rear camera selfies
The new Bubble accessory offers live preview and remote controls but is restricted to specific Chinese models

Oppo has introduced the Bubble, a magnetic wireless accessory designed to facilitate selfies using a smartphone’s rear-facing cameras. The device attaches to the back of compatible phones, providing a live preview screen that allows users to frame shots using sensors that typically offer superior image quality compared to front-facing options. The launch positions the product as a direct competitor to the recently announced Insta360 Snap, though Oppo distinguishes the Bubble with a thinner profile and wireless connectivity capabilities.

The accessory features a seven-millimetre-thick, round AMOLED touchscreen powered by a 550mAh battery. It connects wirelessly to paired devices with a range of nearly 33 feet, offering remote camera controls and a dedicated shutter button. Unlike some competitors that may leverage inductive charging, the Bubble requires power via a USB-C port located on the bottom edge and does not activate wirelessly when docked. Oppo has not disclosed the estimated battery life for the device.

Currently, the Bubble is available in China for 499 yuan, which equates to approximately $73. The company has not confirmed whether the accessory will receive a global release or if it plans to expand compatibility to devices from other manufacturers. At present, the product is restricted to a specific selection of Oppo hardware, including the Reno 14, 15, and 16, as well as the Find X8, X9, X9 Pro, and X9 Ultra series.

Compatibility is managed through an accompanying mobile app, which limits functionality to the specified Oppo models. While the physical magnetic attachment can adhere to devices with embedded magnets, such as iPhones and recent Pixel phones, software integration is not available for these third-party devices. Furthermore, because Oppo has not released smartphones with built-in magnetic rings, users must attach a separate magnetic case to dock the Bubble to phones lacking this feature.

The release highlights a niche market for accessories that bridge the gap between high-fidelity rear camera sensors and the convenience of front-facing selfie modes. By offering a dedicated preview screen and remote controls, the Bubble aims to simplify the process of capturing high-quality images without requiring a second person or a tripod. However, the limited initial compatibility and lack of confirmed international distribution suggest a cautious rollout strategy from the manufacturer.
