Rebels lead best-of-three series 1-0; win secures College World Series berth

Ole Miss baseball has announced that pitcher Taylor Rabe will start Game 2 of the NCAA Super Regional against Auburn on June 6. The selection comes as the Rebels look to close out the best-of-three series, which they currently lead 1-0 following a 6-4 victory in Game 1 on June 5.

A win in this matchup would secure Ole Miss’s place in the College World Series for the first time since their 2022 national championship title. The series is being contested at Plainsman Park in Auburn, Alabama, with Game 2 scheduled for 4 p.m. and broadcast on ESPN.

Rabe, a 6-foot-6 redshirt sophomore from Greenville, South Carolina, enters the contest with a 5-3 record and a 3.84 ERA. He has demonstrated significant recent form, pitching six innings in each of his past three starts and allowing only one earned run over his last 12 innings. This performance marks his debut in an NCAA Tournament super regional game.

Auburn will counter with pitcher Alex Petrovic, who holds a 10-2 record and a 3.19 ERA, as confirmed by coach Butch Thompson. Rabe’s recent durability and efficiency have positioned him as a key asset, having also started and won Ole Miss’s second game of the Lincoln Regional against Nebraska.

If Auburn wins Game 2, the series will move to a potential Game 3 on June 7, the time for which is currently to be announced. Ole Miss has Cade Townsend (5-3, 3.94 ERA) available to start in that scenario. Rabe, ranked No. 90 in the 2026 MLB Draft prospect rankings, took a redshirt year in 2024 to recover from Tommy John surgery before transitioning to a starting role this season.
