Victor Osimhen: Godwin Okpara’s bold claim about United target
Former PSG defender argues Nigerian striker is ideal fit for Premier League side

Former Paris Saint-Germain defender Godwin Okpara has publicly urged Manchester United to sign Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen during the upcoming summer transfer window. Speaking to Soccernet, Okpara described the Nigerian forward as a perfect fit for the club, arguing that his experience in Belgium, France, and Italy has prepared him well for the Premier League.

Okpara stated that if a move to Spain is not possible, England represents the next best option. He identified Manchester United as the ideal platform for Osimhen to showcase his talents, asserting that the striker would enjoy playing in the country and that his style of play would integrate seamlessly into the team.

The appeal coincides with reports that United are considering Osimhen a priority target to support Benjamin Sesko and share the attacking workload. United’s recent attacking investments, including a £200 million investment in Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo, and Matheus Cunha, helped the club score 69 Premier League goals in the recently concluded season and secure third place.

Osimhen has been in strong form for Galatasaray, recording 22 goals and eight assists in 33 appearances during the 2025/26 season. His performances helped the club defend their league title, following a successful debut campaign where he finished as top scorer after joining on loan in the summer of 2024.

United legend Patrice Evra has also recently urged the club to sign Osimhen this year. However, the Nigerian is under contract with Galatasaray until 2029, and prising him away is likely to be a costly affair. United must also consider Osimhen’s injury history, having missed 19 games through various injuries since arriving in Turkey.

While Sesko remains highly regarded at Old Trafford, he only turned 23 over the weekend and is viewed as not yet a finished article. INEOS are unwilling to rest on their laurels and are planning further improvements to the frontline, with Osimhen emerging as a key option to aid Sesko’s development.
