Darwin Nunez’s name ‘crops up’ in Barcelona’s Joao Cancelo talks with Al-Hilal
Transfer speculation links Uruguayan striker to Catalan club amid ongoing negotiations

Barcelona and Al Hilal have engaged in discussions regarding the future of Joao Cancelo, who is currently on loan at the Spanish club from the Saudi Pro League side. According to reporting by Mundo Deportivo, the name of Darwin Nunez has reportedly cropped up during these negotiations, linking the Uruguayan striker to a potential move to Catalonia.

Nunez joined Al Hilal from Liverpool last summer after losing his place in the English side’s squad. He has scored six goals in 16 appearances for the Saudi club this season. However, the striker has not featured since the winter signing of Karim Benzema, as restrictions on foreign players in the league have limited his availability.

The Uruguayan is expected to leave Al Hilal on a free transfer this summer, with reports suggesting he could terminate his contract with the club. His name has been linked to Barcelona in previous transfer windows, with club official Ramon Planes previously admitting the club came close to signing him as a replacement for Luis Suarez.

Despite the mention of Nunez, it remains unclear whether the Spanish club or the Saudi side proposed the potential swap. Mundo Deportivo noted uncertainty as to whether the striker’s name was raised as a formal proposal from Barcelona or as an offer from Al Hilal.

Barcelona’s primary target for the striker position remains Julian Alvarez. While the club is keen for Cancelo to stay, the outcome of the negotiations with Al Hilal is yet to be resolved, and definitive interest in Nunez has not been confirmed.
