Norwalk has appointed Jamaal Gibbs as its boys basketball head coach, bringing a former McMahon player into the programme of a school once part of his playing rivalry. Gibbs replaces Darrick Eason, who resigned in June.

Gibbs, a Norwalk resident, led Weston for nine seasons. He also worked as an assistant coach at Weston, McMahon and Norwalk, including as Norwalk’s freshman coach in 2016.

Norwalk athletic director Doug Marchetti said Gibbs was selected from more than 20 applicants. Marchetti pointed to Gibbs’s coaching and his four selections in nine seasons for the Harold Swaffield Sportsmanship Award from IAABO Board 9.

Gibbs had four winning seasons at Weston, whose team reached the CIAC Division IV quarter-finals in 2024. He said his priorities at Norwalk would include building players’ character and helping them prepare for life after graduation.

Gibbs said competing for FCIAC and state championships was a goal, while acknowledging it would take time. Weston athletic director Mark Berkowitz said the school had begun looking for Gibbs’s replacement.
