Xenoblade Genesis, the next mainline entry in the action RPG franchise, launches in 2027
New mainline entry set in a magic school joins dedicated editions for existing franchise titles

Nintendo has announced Xenoblade Genesis, the next mainline entry in its long-running action role-playing series, scheduled for release in 2027 on the Nintendo Switch 2. The title was revealed during a recent Nintendo Direct livestream, which featured a trailer showcasing gameplay and a new setting where the protagonist attends a magic school.

The company also confirmed dedicated Switch 2 editions for the existing mainline Xenoblade Chronicles titles. Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition is available immediately for $64. This version features 4K resolution on television and full HD in handheld mode, along with high-speed vehicles for traversal, additional voiceovers, and updated equipment designs. An upgrade pack is available for owners of the original Switch version.

Further entries in the series will follow later this year. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition launches on 30 July, while Xenoblade Chronicles 3 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition arrives on 3 December. These releases complete the dedicated Switch 2 ports for the core narrative entries of the franchise, which originally began with a Wii release in 2010.

Xenoblade Chronicles X, which operates in a separate universe from the mainline games, previously received a Switch 2 edition earlier this year. The Genesis announcement marks a significant step for the series, with Nintendo promising further details as the 2027 launch date approaches.

The presentation also highlighted other upcoming titles, including FromSoftware’s Switch 2 exclusive The Duskbloods, which is undergoing closed network testing, and Square Enix’s Kingdom Hearts IV, confirmed for Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox, and PC.
