NFL Unveils 2026 Fixture List Amidst International Expansion and Valentine's Day Super Bowl
While the full calendar awaits final release, CBS Sports has detailed the confirmed opponents and the structural shift toward greater global engagement.

The National Football League has officially detailed the framework for its 2026 season, confirming a total of 272 games across all 32 teams. Although the comprehensive calendar with specific dates and kick-off times remains pending until later in the month, the league's scheduling formula has allowed for the identification of every opponent for each club. This structural approach, originally implemented in 2002 and revised in 2021 to accommodate the addition of a 17th regular-season game, dictates that every team will play its own games, division rivals, and inter-conference opponents in a specific rotation.
A significant element of the upcoming season is the expansion of international fixtures, marking a continued push by the NFL to globalise its product. The Los Angeles Rams have been confirmed to play a match in Australia, while the Washington Commanders and Atlanta Falcons are set to host international games. However, the specific locations for the games hosted by the Commanders and the Falcons remain undisclosed, with the league indicating that the international schedule will be released at a later date.
Under the current formula, each of the 32 teams is scheduled for nine home games in 2026. This distribution ensures that the National Football Conference will be hosting the majority of these international matches. The regular season is fixed to commence on Thursday, 10 September 2026, and will run through Week 18, concluding on 10 January 2026 before the postseason begins.
The season will culminate in Super Bowl LXI, which is scheduled to take place on 14 February 2027 at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles. This date selection is notable as it marks the first time in the league's history that the championship match will be played on Valentine's Day. The contest will see the NFC champion meet the AFC champion in front of a global audience, adhering to the timeline established for the 2026-27 campaign.
While the opponent lists for all teams are derived from the established scheduling formula and are effectively confirmed, the full official schedule details are subject to final confirmation. Specific dates and times for individual matches have not yet been released and are expected to be announced during the spring. The league maintains that the current information provides a clear overview of the 17 opponents for each club, offering a sneak peak at the 272 games that will comprise the docket for the coming year.
