ESPN’s assessment of strength of schedule, utilising 2025 win-loss records of opponents, highlights a challenging landscape for several prominent franchises. The Chicago Bears face the league’s toughest schedule, a metric that historically correlates with reduced postseason viability.
Data indicates that over the past decade, seven of the ten teams with the hardest schedule by this metric missed the playoffs entirely. The last team to win a playoff game after entering the season with the most difficult fixture list was the 2016 Falcons. The Bears’ challenge is compounded by their divisional context; they must compete against the Detroit Lions, Minnesota Vikings, and Green Bay Packers, all of whom are projected to return to contender status following the Bears’ division title in 2025.
Conversely, the Cincinnati Bengals are positioned with the third-easiest schedule in the league. With only four games against teams that recorded winning records in 2025, the Bengals face a manageable path to potential playoff contention.
