Newsome backs Giants secondary to contain Cowboys receivers
Greg Newsome II has praised CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens while expressing confidence ahead of the Giants’ prime-time Week 1 meeting with Dallas.

New York Giants cornerback Greg Newsome II has expressed respect for Dallas Cowboys receivers CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens while backing his team’s chances of defending them in their prime-time Week 1 matchup.
Newsome praised Pickens’ ability to make contested catches and pointed to Lamb’s versatility as a particular challenge for defenders. “Definitely great players, but I like our chances,” he said, according to a Sporting News report carried by Yahoo Sports.
The comments add a personal element to the meeting. Newsome and Pickens were involved in a confrontation after a 2024 game, when Newsome played for the Cleveland Browns and Pickens represented the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Pickens now plays for Dallas alongside Lamb, while Newsome has joined a Giants team entering a new era under head coach John Harbaugh and defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson.
Newsome’s remarks did not dismiss the quality of the Cowboys receivers, but set out his confidence in the Giants’ ability to manage the challenge. The significance of that confidence will be tested when the teams meet.
