New Jersey All Stars secure Little League World Series opener with walk-off home run

The New Jersey All Stars defeated the New England All Stars 2-1 in the opening match of the Little League World Series at Howard J. Lamade Stadium in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. The victory was sealed by a walk-off home run from twelve-year-old Mason Rincon in the bottom of the sixth inning, ending a 1-1 stalemate.

Rincon played a dual role in the contest, starting on the mound before shifting to shortstop in the fifth inning. While pitching, he recorded eight strikeouts and fielded multiple grounders, though he surrendered a home run to the New England leadoff hitter in the third inning to tie the game. After reaching his pitch limit, Rincon moved to the infield, where he immediately started a double play to end the fifth inning.

The decisive moment came when Rincon hit a pitch over the centre field fence and onto the hill behind the outfield. The New Jersey team had adopted a disciplined approach at the plate, driving up the pitch count of New England’s ace, Domenik Mombeleur. Mombeleur, known as “The Dominator,” struck out eight batters but was removed from the game in the fourth inning after reaching his 86-pitch limit.

The New England All Stars, who feature players from Bridgewater, Massachusetts, committed two errors and threw three wild pitches during the match. In contrast, the Bayonne squad, which did not commit an error in three games at the Metro Regional last week, relied on strong fundamentals to advance. More than 200 supporters from Bayonne attended the fixture, with local merchandise selling out ahead of the game.

Following the win, the New Jersey All Stars will face the Mid-Atlantic All Stars from West Chester, Pennsylvania, on Friday at 7 p.m. The New England team has been relegated to the U.S. elimination bracket. The 20-team tournament will continue until 30 August.
