Netflix commissions animated workplace sitcom 'Dealies' from Scavengers Reign co-creator
The streamer has greenlit a big-box retail comedy produced by Green Street Pictures, marking another collaboration for the studio behind Bennett’s previous hits.

Netflix has officially commissioned a new animated series titled 'Dealies', created by Joe Bennett and Ted Travelstead. Bennett, who previously co-created the sci-fi series 'Scavengers Reign' and the comedy-drama 'Common Side Effects', will serve as showrunner alongside Travelstead, a voice actor on 'Scavengers Reign' and former supervising producer on 'The Great North'. The series is scheduled to premiere on the platform in 2027.
The workplace sitcom centres on the daily operations and staff of a big-box retail store. While the premise may appear straightforward compared to Bennett’s previous work—which included a crew crash-landing on a treacherous alien planet and a conspiracy surrounding a life-extending drug—early visual materials suggest a more complex tone. Bennett and Travelstead will act as executive producers on the project.
Green Street Pictures, the animation studio responsible for Bennett’s prior shows, will handle production. Key art released by Netflix and opening credits posted by the studio on YouTube reveal character designs featuring large, expressive heads, a stylistic hallmark of Green Street. The credits also incorporate surreal imagery described as reminiscent of the film 'Paprika', echoing the headier visual moments found in 'Common Side Effects'.
'Common Side Effects', which Bennett co-created with Steve Hely, is available on HBO Max and was renewed for a second season in March 2025. The series blends comedy with underlying emotional drama, a tonal balance that fans of Bennett’s work may expect to see reflected in 'Dealies', although specific plot details beyond the retail setting remain undisclosed.
Meanwhile, 'Scavengers Reign' is technically cancelled but remains available to stream on Netflix or HBO Max. The upcoming 'Dealies' series represents the latest venture for Bennett and Travelstead, with Green Street Pictures continuing its partnership with the creators as they expand their portfolio in the animated space.
