Broadcaster dedicates May 26-28 to iconic left-field wall with exclusive coverage and archival home run analysis

The New England Sports Network (NESN) has announced 'Monster Week', a three-day event running from May 26 to 28, dedicated to the iconic Green Monster at Fenway Park. The broadcaster is utilising the occasion to present wall-to-wall coverage that includes a full game broadcast from atop the 37-foot wall, exclusive camera angles, and live reporting from within the structure itself. As part of the festivities, NESN has published a retrospective examining memorable home runs hit off the wall, which stands more than 200 feet wide.

The retrospective highlights several pivotal moments in baseball history associated with the left-field barrier. Among the featured events is Carlton Fisk’s 1975 World Series Game 6 walk-off, where the Red Sox player waved his arms to ensure a pitch down the line was fair, securing a 7-6 victory over Cincinnati. Although Boston lost the series in Game 7, the moment remains a defining image of the era.

Also featured is Bucky Dent’s 1978 one-game playoff three-run homer against the Red Sox. The New York Yankees shortstop hit a dramatic shot that just cleared the Green Monster, propelling his team to a 5-4 victory in a winner-take-all tiebreaker. The event holds significant cultural weight among Boston fans, who have long referred to Dent with the nickname 'Bleeping' Dent.

The coverage also extends to the 1999 Home Run Derby, which took place at Fenway Park shortly after Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa’s chase of Roger Maris’ single-season record. While Ken Griffey Jr. won the competition, McGwire set a new single-round record with 13 home runs in the first round, providing a notable backdrop for the event at the historic venue.

More recent history includes Manny Ramirez’s 2007 ALDS home run against Francisco Rodriguez, which gave Boston a 2-0 series lead against the Angels. The Red Sox went on to sweep the Angels and the Detroit Tigers in the ALCS before winning the 2007 World Series. Similarly, Shane Victorino’s 2013 ALCS Game 6 grand slam over the Green Monster is highlighted as a key moment in Boston’s path to defeating Detroit and ultimately the St Louis Cardinals in the World Series.

NESN is inviting readers to add the network as a 'Preferred Source' to stay updated on the week’s programming. The event serves as a comprehensive review of how the Green Monster has influenced the outcome of games, ranging from record-breaking blasts to series-defining walk-offs.
