SEC expected to lead host schools as projections name UCLA and Georgia Tech top seeds

The NCAA Division I Baseball Committee is scheduled to announce the final field of 68 teams for the upcoming tournament on Monday, 25 May. The selection follows the conclusion of all conference postseason tournaments, which served as the primary mechanism for automatic qualification. The 16 host schools for the opening round were confirmed on Sunday, with the Southeastern Conference (SEC) securing a significant presence with seven representatives.

Projections released by Yahoo Sports, originally published in USA Today, indicate that the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and Georgia Tech are positioned as the top two seeds. This seeding reflects their status as champions of the Big Ten and Atlantic Coast Conferences (ACC), respectively. The University of Georgia is anticipated to hold the No. 3 seed, having secured victories in both the regular season and its conference tournament.

Securing a seed within the top eight is a critical threshold, as it guarantees a team hosts its regional and super regional series. Texas, Auburn, Alabama, and Florida are identified as the primary contenders for these positions, though the specific order beyond the top three remains subject to the committee’s final deliberation.

The automatic qualifiers for the field include Kentucky, Virginia Tech, Pittsburgh, Troy, TCU, Michigan, Texas State, and North Carolina State. The conclusion of conference tournaments has also created complex dynamics for at-large bids, with some programmes identified as potential "bid thieves" while smaller schools face pressure on the bubble.

The final composition of the bracket will be unveiled on Memorial Day, concluding the selection process for the national championship.
