Native Instruments Komplete 26 adds weird new synths and experimental piano sounds
The latest flagship music production suite shifts to a year-based naming convention and introduces significant new tools for composers and producers.

Native Instruments has launched Komplete 26, its flagship music production suite, marking a strategic shift from version-based numbering to a year-based naming convention for the 2026 release. The bundle introduces 62 new additions designed to cater to music producers, composers, and score writers across various genres.

The core of the update focuses on significant advancements in synthesiser and sampler technology. The suite includes Absynth 6, described as a "weird" synthesiser, alongside Massive X to cover a broad spectrum of sound design needs. For sample-based instrumentation, Kontakt 8 is included as the industry standard for orchestras, drums, and choirs, now featuring enhanced tools for sequencing and building chord progressions.

To support mixing and mastering workflows, the package incorporates plugins from iZotope, specifically Ozone 12, Neutron 5, and Nectar 4. Guitar Rig 7 Pro is also integrated to provide effects and amp simulations. Additional tools targeted at score work include LCO Producer Strings and Moments: Vocal Clouds, expanding the creative palette for film and media composers.

Pricing for Komplete 26 is structured across six tiers, ranging from $99 for specific Select bundles focused on Beats, Band, or Electronic music. The Standard edition is priced at $549, while the Ultimate version costs $1,249. The most comprehensive offering, the Collector's Edition, is priced at $1,949. Users upgrading from Komplete 15 will save money on the standard tiers, though upgrading the Collector's Edition specifically incurs an additional cost of $399.

The Collector's Edition distinguishes itself with a massive 1.6 TB download size, housing an extensive library of sampled instruments. This includes Claire and Claire: Avant, a pair of sampled Steinway D grand piano instruments that cover both traditional acoustic tones and experimental textures. The sheer volume of data reflects the depth of the included expansion packs and high-resolution samples.

While the software targets a wide audience of musicians, the source material does not specify exact release dates or detailed hardware compatibility requirements. Native Instruments has not provided specific operating system versions or hardware specifications required to run the new suite, leaving those details for future documentation.
