NASCAR Confirms All-Star Race Return to North Wilkesboro for 2027
The $1 million exhibition event will conclude the FOX Sports broadcast window, supported by a triple-header format and planned regulatory innovations.

NASCAR has confirmed that the All-Star Race will return to North Wilkesboro Speedway in 2027, marking a significant scheduling decision for the sport’s governance structure. The $1 million-to-win exhibition is set for 23 May 2027, a date that will cap the Cup schedule broadcast on FOX Sports. This move reinstates the event at the historic venue where it was previously held between 2023 and 2025, following a period where the track hosted a points race to commemorate the 30th anniversary of its last Cup event in 1996.
The 2027 weekend will operate under a triple-header format, integrating the exhibition into a broader points-based framework. The Truck Series will hold its points race on 21 May, followed by the O’Reilly Series on 22 May. This structure ensures that the short track, a 0.625-mile asphalt oval, serves as a central hub for national series competition, reinforcing its operational viability after decades of dormancy and subsequent restoration by track operator Speedway Motorsports with North Carolina pandemic-recovery funding.
NASCAR has indicated that the 2027 All-Star Race will introduce specific changes to its operational parameters. According to a news release from the track, the sanctioning body plans to collaborate with teams to implement an innovative element to the race format or technical rules. While the precise nature of these regulatory adjustments remains undisclosed, such modifications are standard practice for the exhibition, designed to alter competitive dynamics and technical specifications.
NASCAR Chief Operating Officer Ben Kennedy described the decision as a convergence of the sport’s historical legacy and its current strategic momentum. In a statement, Kennedy highlighted the significance of the triple-header weekend for both the track and the local community, noting that the event represents continued growth for the sport. The announcement underscores NASCAR’s intent to leverage historic venues to sustain institutional relevance and community engagement.
Broadcasting arrangements for the 2027 season remain aligned with existing media partnerships. FOX Sports will air the first 14 Cup events of the season on FOX or FS1, with the All-Star Race serving as the culmination of this initial broadcast block. The return to North Wilkesboro reflects a calculated effort to balance heritage preservation with modern scheduling demands, ensuring the track remains a functional component of the national series infrastructure.
