NASA launches seven-state programme to build aerospace technical workforce
NASA’s State Hubs initiative will develop state-specific programmes, tools and resources linking students with aerospace skills and hands-on experience.
NASA has launched an initiative spanning seven US states to develop pathways into aerospace technical careers, bringing project leaders and government partners together at Space Centre Houston on 15 September.
Led by NASA’s Office of STEM Engagement, the State Hubs for Skilled Technical Workforce programme includes projects in California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Minnesota, Texas and Utah.
Each hub will tailor its programmes to local aerospace industries and workforce priorities. Awardees are expected to develop and deliver tools, resources and learning opportunities connecting students with technical skills and practical aerospace experience.
The launch meeting included presentations from each hub, alongside discussions about workforce needs, credentials and hiring trends. Participants also examined coordination between industry, community colleges and state economic development bodies.
NASA said the initiative will address challenges including difficulties scaling job programmes and misconceptions about manufacturing careers. The agency and its partners will finalise their approaches before beginning programme delivery in the coming months.
