Hosting provider Namecheap is down after data center cooling failure
Hosting provider outage linked to storm damage at PhoenixNAP facility

Hosting provider Namecheap experienced a significant service outage following a cooling system failure at its PhoenixNAP data centre in Phoenix. The disruption, attributed to damage sustained from heavy storms overnight, caused elevated temperatures within the facility and rendered multiple services unavailable or subject to delays.

The incident impacted Namecheap’s primary website, its EasyWP platform, DNS services, and email clients. Some services became completely unreachable, while others suffered from significant latency. The widespread technical failure also affected customer support tools, complicating efforts for clients to seek immediate assistance during the downtime.

PhoenixNAP, the data centre partner hosting Namecheap’s infrastructure, confirmed the facility was experiencing "elevated white space temperatures" resulting from the storm damage. The cooling system failure was a direct consequence of the environmental conditions inside the building.

Namecheap chief executive Hillan Klein provided updates via X, stating that services were anticipated to begin returning online between 3:00pm and 3:30pm ET. Klein noted that temperatures were falling and trending in the right direction, allowing technical teams to commence restoration efforts.

Clients experiencing persistent issues beyond the initial estimate window are advised to monitor the company’s social media channels for further updates. The full extent of the outage duration and any potential data implications remain to be determined.
