He faces a deadline of next March to secure a new agreement before becoming a free agent.
The Rams are currently evaluating how to structure a long-term extension for the receiver, who is considered one of the best wide receivers in the league on the field. Nacua has been identified as a key component of the team’s offensive strategy following their Super Bowl LVI victory. However, the negotiation landscape is complicated by recent off-field controversies involving the player.
Analysts suggest these off-field issues may jeopardise Nacua’s potential early payday. Joel Corry of CBS Sports noted that the Rams will need to be convinced that Nacua has turned over a new leaf regarding his behaviour before committing to a multi-year deal. Financial projections for a new contract point toward a deal comparable to the four-year, $168.6 million agreement signed by Jaxson Smith-Njigba with the Seattle Seahawks. That contract, which made Smith-Njigba the highest-paid wide receiver in NFL history, sets a high benchmark for Nacua’s potential earnings. Other receivers across the league have recently signed extensions, highlighting the market value Nacua commands.
If the Rams are unwilling to commit to a multi-year extension, they may utilise the franchise tag to secure Nacua for the 2027 season. This tag is valued at $31.5 million guaranteed.
