MSI has entered the premium segment of the portable gaming market with the release of the Claw 8 EX AI+, a device that significantly outpaces competitors in raw performance but carries a steep price tag. The handheld is priced at $1,800, a figure that places it well above the launch costs of rival units such as the ROG Xbox Ally X and the Lenovo Legion Go 2. An MSI spokesperson confirmed that the pricing strategy is driven by component and production costs, citing the impact of the artificial intelligence hardware boom on supply chains as a primary factor in driving up expenses for existing hardware.
At the core of the device is Intel’s Arc G3 Extreme chipset, built on the new Panther Lake architecture, which MSI states offers a substantial performance leap over previous Lunar Lake chips. The unit is equipped with 32 GB of LPDDR5x RAM, 1 TB of SSD storage, and an 8-inch 1920 x 1200 IPS touchscreen with a 120-Hz variable refresh rate.
