Gaming hardware maker targets redemption with new handheld featuring custom silicon and updated ergonomics

MSI has announced the Claw 8 EX AI Plus, a new handheld gaming PC unveiled ahead of Computex 2026. The device marks a significant hardware shift for the manufacturer, replacing the Intel Lunar Lake mobile chip found in its predecessor with Intel’s custom Arc G3 Extreme processor. This new silicon features an array of Xe3 GPU cores designed specifically to handle gaming workloads on portable form factors.

The company describes the Claw 8 EX AI Plus as the world’s first handheld to utilise the Arc G3 Extreme chip. While MSI claims this distinction, the broader market landscape suggests it may not be the sole pioneer; competitors Acer, with its Predator Atlas 8, and OneXPlayer, with its OneXPlayer 3, are also expected to release devices powered by the same processor in the near future.

Hardware specifications for the new unit include an eight-inch touchscreen with a resolution of 1920 x 1200 and a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. Internally, the device supports up to 32GB of dual-channel LPDDR5x memory and features a single NVMe M.2 SSD slot for storage. MSI has not yet confirmed which specific RAM configurations will be available to consumers at launch.

The chassis has been redesigned with a focus on ergonomics and control precision. The new build includes updated grips, Hall effect triggers and sticks, and a high-end linear motor intended to provide faster haptic feedback and improved power efficiency. The device is currently available in a single colour option described by MSI as “Void Purple.”

Pricing and availability details have not been confirmed for the new model. The previous iteration, the MSI Claw 8 AI Plus, launched last year at a price point of $1,000. Industry observers note that this release follows a period of criticism regarding MSI’s initial entry into the powerful gaming handheld market, with earlier attempts described as disastrous, suggesting the new hardware aims to rectify previous performance and quality issues.
