MSI's Claw 8 EX AI+ handheld comes out on June 23
New device features Intel Arc G3 Extreme chip and $1,500 estimated price tag

MSI has confirmed that its latest premium handheld gaming device, the Claw 8 EX AI+, will officially launch on June 23. The announcement follows a hands-on event held at the company’s headquarters in Taipei, Taiwan, ahead of the Computex 2026 technology conference. The device represents a significant shift in the manufacturer’s handheld strategy, positioning itself as a high-end offering in a market increasingly defined by premium specifications and elevated price points.

At the core of the new hardware is the Intel Arc G3 Extreme chip, which MSI states provides a substantial performance increase over previous iterations. The system is equipped with up to 32GB of memory and an 80Wh battery, housed within an eight-inch touchscreen display boasting a 1,920 x 1,200 resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. Additionally, the device features an updated SSD design with an M.2 2280 slot, allowing for easier storage upgrades by end-users.

The hardware also sees refinements in physical design, with MSI improving the haptics and ergonomic layout of the buttons and joysticks. These enhancements, alongside the processing power, are intended to justify the device's premium positioning. This marks a departure from the manufacturer’s 2024 handheld lineup, which started at approximately $800, reflecting broader pressures in the component supply chain that have driven up costs across the industry.

Pricing remains a key point of interest, with the configuration displayed at the Taipei event carrying an estimated price of $1,500. However, MSI has not yet finalised the retail price, and reports from PCGamer suggest this figure applies specifically to the unit shown. This leaves open the possibility of more affordable variants with reduced specifications, such as lower memory or storage capacities, though no such models have been confirmed.

The Claw 8 EX AI+ enters a crowded segment of high-performance handhelds, facing direct competition from the Acer Predator Atlas 8 and a new device from OneXPlayer. Both competitors are also utilising the Intel Arc G3 Extreme chip, indicating a standardisation of core technology among premium manufacturers. As the June 23 launch date approaches, market attention will focus on whether MSI can sustain its premium pricing strategy amidst ongoing component cost challenges.
